AGRICULTURAL LAND PRESERVATION

The State has made important strides in the preservation of our precious agricultural lands having saved thousands of acres for generations to come.  Unfortunately, little of this land is in New Castle County. The reason is quite simple.  Land in Kent and Sussex Counties is comparatively cheap and large amounts of acreage can be acquired for a relatively small price.  Indeed, the very lands more subject to development are the most expensive per acre.

It is vital to New Castle County that agricultural land preservation benefits be extended to our area.  After all, one of the purposes of agricultural land preservation is to protect acreage.  But another equally important purpose is to protect us from the ravages of overdevelopment.  We should be actively seeking property subject to immediate development threat and preserve agricultural land there too.
